Our pal Kathryn, of the etsy shop Arteest, is in a contest for which piece of wall-art folks would most like to hang on their wall. She is such a kind and talented individual...would you help us with a push to send voters her way? The painting is truly beautiful too. I can personally vouch that my mom and I both own smaller versions (in different color schemes) of this lovely piece. So, earn your good karma for the day and nudge our ETC team mate on to victory. Thanks bunches! Link provided below:

You may also visit Kathryn's etsy shop directly to marvel at her creative vision:

Finally, one team member is profiling another in her personal blog. There's a giveaway too. Since you're already showing the love for Kathryn, go ahead and do the same for Melanie and Melinda too okay?

Happy Monday blog readers! We hope you had a wonderful weekend. If you happened to attend our Eco-Chic Craftacular event in Columbus Saturday or Sunday then you know how our weekend went---BUSY, FUN, SUCCESSFUL!

Our team would like to take this opportunity to extend sincere appreciation to our sponsors, vendors, customers and friends who joined us for our innaugural art show! Even the rain didn't dampen our spirits or keep our loyal followers away.

Most importantly, the money we raised was donated to the Whetstone Community Center, Ohio Green Living and Local Matters (Local Ohio Foods). So once again, THANK YOU and we look forward to doing it all again NEXT year!

On another subject...a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY wish to our very own Kellie of Blue Girl Ink. She is a vital member of our group and a wonderfully talented, kind and funny lady! Please visit her etsy store via this link: http://bluegirlink.etsy.com/

Finally, congratulations to Andrea of Handmade by Andrea Baker for her 2nd straight win in our monthly themed team design challenge! Her grocery bag cozy received the most votes for the "eco chic" competition. She will have the honor of choosing next month's design theme, so watch our blog on 6/10 for the next round of interactive fun!

Weekend Update

Author jannypie Category , , , , ,

Greetings Loyal Readers! And Happy Mother's Day whether you have wee ones of the hairless, furry or feathered variety. Here are a few tidbits we wanted to share:

Our Craftacular staff tshirts have arrived! Staff + Craftacular = STAFFTACULAR! Special thanks to American Canvas Printing for the wonderful job they did. These tees are organic cotton and sweatshop-free. Can't wait until next weekend to proudly don one of these babies!

Don't forget to scroll down the blog to see this month's entries for our monthly design theme challenge. We've got twelve fantastic submissions. Be sure to cast your vote for the item which best represents May's theme of "Eco Chic."

Five MORE ECO facts:
1. 84 percent of all household waste COULD be recycled.
2. 5 billion aluminum cans are used each year.
3. It takes 90% less energy to recycle aluminum cans than to make new ones.
4. More than 1/3 of garbage in landfills in the U.S. comes from paper and cardboard.
5. Nine out of every 10 newspapers are thrown away instead of recycled!

Belated Congratulations!

Andrea Baker was the winner of our April team design challenge. The theme was "punk rock." She created a business card cozy from recycled blue fabric with a guitar motif (former shirt) and achieved victory with 21 votes in her favor! Join us as we congratulate her for a job well done. While you're at it, visit her etsy shop to see the many other unique creations she is offering. KUDOS crafting friend!
Here is a cute Q & A Andrea was good enough to complete so our readers can get to know her better!
What kind of items do you create?
Business Card Cozies, Check Book Cozies, Aprons, Totes, Handbags, etc.
How long have you been creating?
I have been creating now for several years and have enjoyed every minute of it.
What or Who are your creative influences?
I see creative influences everywhere I look. In my family, in my friends, in nature, everywhere.
Do you work outside of the home/studio? I am also an Independent Silver Consultant for Inspiranza Designs. www.inspiranzadesigns.com/AndreaBaker as well as an Independent Beautify Consultant for Mary Kay. www.marykay.com/AndreaBaker
What is your education as it pertains to your craft?
My mom was a seamstress when I was younger. She used to make wedding gowns and I remember the little shop she used to work at. The drive way was lined with apple trees. Mom taught me a lot that I never used over the years but when I became a stay at home mom I was looking for something to fill my time while my daughter was at school. Sewing became that hobby and I was able to turn that hobby into a business.
What is your favorite part of creating handmade items?
I absolutely adore being able to take fabric and turning it into an item that will be used.
Do you have any connection likes you'd like to share?
I have several ways you can connect with me. They are all listed on the following link.

Monthly Team Challenge Kick-off

Author jannypie Category , , ,

Our diverse team of artists are proud to announce a new monthly activity we're going to try out. The fun part is that it's INTERACTIVE. We want YOU, our readers, to vote on submissions for each month's creative challenge and help us select a winner. Basically we will announce a theme and team members will have until the 10th of the month to submit their item for consideration. These will then be posted to our blog page. Voting will be open for one week. The party with a majority of votes will be proclaimed winner. The victor receives: bragging rights, gets to pick the next month's theme AND a nice little write up here on our blog with information on them and their business.

We will also be encouraging our team members and readers to spread the word about our challenges. Post a link from your personal blog to ours! There will be no restrictions on the mediums our creative minds may use. Won't it be interesting to see what they come up with when we give them a nudge and free reign?

April and May's themes have been chosen in advance. They are (officially): April will be PUNK ROCK inspired and May is LOVE YOUR MOTHER - EARTH in honor of our planned Eco-chic Craftacular (5/16 & 17). Possible future themes include: Freaks & Geeks, Buckeye Fever, Jamaican me crazy, Bohemian Rhapsody, Hollywood Squares, and Miami Spice.

Remember you are welcome to post your remarks by clicking the link provided under each blog submission. We all love reading your comments and thoughts.

Tsuru Bride presents: The Copper Cat Clutch CONTEST!!

Author jannypie Category , , , , ,

From one of our team members, Tsurubride: www.tsurubride.com

Some friends and I noticed that my copper cat clutch keeps showing up on blogs and other pages, kinda like the gnome in Amelie, and I have decided to hold a contest to see who can find the most pages with my copper cat on it.

How to play:
Search online and find as many pages as possible with the below image (I've found 7). It needs to be my copper cat (no champagne or other color cats will do). Then email me at tsurubride (at) gmail.com with the links, with "copper cat contest" in the subject line.
For example: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=13685427 You can include that example in the ones you find. You can also stock the odds in your favor by posting the copper cat on your own blog and your friends blog, though other people will be able to grab those links as well.
Please make sure you include all your links in 1 email.

What do you win? Who ever finds the most pages wins a $10 gift certificate for my shop or a free card holder, I haven't quite decided which (maybe I'll let the winner decide). And say if 3 people find the same number of cats, well then I'll draw a winner randomly from those 3. The contest starts TODAY! and will run until December 1st - so you have 3 weeks - get searching!
