HAPPY BIRTHDAY MELANIE!!!

Author jannypie Category , , , ,

Today we extend warm wishes to Melanie of Mel's Clay. She is a valued team member and polymer clay guru. Furthermore she is doing her part to join the "green" or eco-friendly movement by incorporating recycled materials into her art. You will notice clay covered tins, light-switch covers and drawer knobs are amongst the usual wares in her shop. She also creates clay jewelry and coats ink pens with beautiful clay patterns. If you have a theme or color scheme in mind, she will happily work with you to design a unique and one-of-a-kind finished product. Please take a moment to visit her shop and join us in celebrating her special day!

Monday's Featured Item of the day by Curl Girl Designs

Author jannypie Category , , , , , , ,

Over the next month (and hopefully beyond) you will hear a great deal about environmentally friendly or 'eco chic' creations in our blog. Several of our members are passionate about this cause and incidentally our group is sponsoring a fabulous crafting event in May with this theme. We've decided to challenge ourselves and our friends to incorporate some sort of Earth loving elements into their present and/or future artwork and wares. Even by taking baby steps toward this goal or beginning to think about how to "make it work"....we hope to bring about a positive change in our community.

One of our team members currently "walking the walk" is Claire of Curl Girl Designs. Claire describes herself as a midwest girl with a passion for bags. All of the leather she uses in her purses, wristlets and carry-alls is 100% recycled and repurposed. What's old CAN be made new again. Each item is one of a kind! A peaceful vibe accompanies her chic creations. You might see tree branches, koi, or doves appliqued onto one or more bags, as well as the words "peace" and "hope." We definitely recommend you visit her etsy shop and purchase your next bag from our Curl Girl. Links follow....

Thursday's Featured item of the day from AmyD

Author jannypie Category , , , , , ,

One of the hippest members of our team is an uber-talented mama named Amy D. This crafty chica even has her own brick and mortar storefront in addition to her etsy shop. She's a dynamo with a sewing machine and serger.

Amy claims she has been sewing since 8th grade home ec class (oh I remember those days...) and was encouraged to create by both her mother and grandmother. Her original handmade clothing for the family is usually made with recycled materials. You really can't beat the way she gives new life to these threads...increasing their cool quotient along the way.

In addition to clothing (skirts, dresses, t's, aprons, etc), Amy also offers felt coffee cozies and pins. The felt she uses is made from recycled soda bottles. So, protect your hands from that simmering beverage AND help the environment.

Here is a link to Amy's etsy storefront and also her shop address so you can browse through her plentiful inventory in person! Have a great day.

219 E. Arcadia Columbus, OH

Monday's Featured Item of the day from Spacedog Studios

Author jannypie Category , , , , , ,

Good morning all! Hope everyone had a nice weekend :-)

This morning I was inspired to search etsy's tags and descriptions with the 'etsy team columbus' term. This is a great way to browse a wide selection of items created by individual artists on our team without going from shop to shop (and hence, typing in each shop name).

One of the most creative people on our team is Sarah of Spacedog Studios. Why do I say this? Well, first of all, she is doing her part to bring back the art of hand-binding books and journals. She uses interesting patterns, colors, materials, papers, etc. In this more eco-aware age, she is recycling paper and fabric scraps, as well as selling vintage goods. Her wares include scrap packs, sketch books, bookmarks, flash card packs (as seen here), artwork and more. The clever results of her labors have plenty of personality and are sure to inspire you. Seriously, I'm wondering if there's anything she CAN'T do? Did I mention her day job involves floral design for a popular craft store chain? What an enviable CREATIVE life!

We could ramble on all day about this team member and her unique designs, but the best way for you to get to know them is to go and LOOK! Links are provided for both of her etsy stores. Feel free to return here and comment on your favorite items!
