Wednesday Item of the day from Gardenia's Garb

Author jannypie Category , , , , , , ,

Today we are focusing our spotlight on a truly unique new addition to our team: Gardenia's Garb creator Patty. We simply had to share this yellow pirate/peasant shirt for men from her shop. Seriously, the guys are always getting overlooked in the handmade universe...so BRAVO for this bold foray.

Here, in her own words, is a peak into the designs and inspiration behind Gardenia's Garb.

"All of our products are handmade in non-smoking homes by my mother and myself. We have been involved with Renaissance festivals for over 12 years. We make clothing specifically designed for performers. We try to keep our patterns, styles, and color of fabric appropriate to the time period, but we occasionally take flights of fancy when the mood strikes us."

"Being a performer and a Scottish country dancer, I understand what is required of garb that is going to be lived in and worn more as clothes rather than a costume. Our clothing is designed to be worn, danced, and played in."

Andrea Baker was the winner of our April team design challenge. The theme was "punk rock." She created a business card cozy from recycled blue fabric with a guitar motif (former shirt) and achieved victory with 21 votes in her favor! Join us as we congratulate her for a job well done. While you're at it, visit her etsy shop to see the many other unique creations she is offering. KUDOS crafting friend!
Here is a cute Q & A Andrea was good enough to complete so our readers can get to know her better!
What kind of items do you create?
Business Card Cozies, Check Book Cozies, Aprons, Totes, Handbags, etc.
How long have you been creating?
I have been creating now for several years and have enjoyed every minute of it.
What or Who are your creative influences?
I see creative influences everywhere I look. In my family, in my friends, in nature, everywhere.
Do you work outside of the home/studio? I am also an Independent Silver Consultant for Inspiranza Designs. www.inspiranzadesigns.com/AndreaBaker as well as an Independent Beautify Consultant for Mary Kay. www.marykay.com/AndreaBaker
What is your education as it pertains to your craft?
My mom was a seamstress when I was younger. She used to make wedding gowns and I remember the little shop she used to work at. The drive way was lined with apple trees. Mom taught me a lot that I never used over the years but when I became a stay at home mom I was looking for something to fill my time while my daughter was at school. Sewing became that hobby and I was able to turn that hobby into a business.
What is your favorite part of creating handmade items?
I absolutely adore being able to take fabric and turning it into an item that will be used.
Do you have any connection likes you'd like to share?
I have several ways you can connect with me. They are all listed on the following link.

Thursday's Featured item of the day from AmyD

Author jannypie Category , , , , , ,

One of the hippest members of our team is an uber-talented mama named Amy D. This crafty chica even has her own brick and mortar storefront in addition to her etsy shop. She's a dynamo with a sewing machine and serger.

Amy claims she has been sewing since 8th grade home ec class (oh I remember those days...) and was encouraged to create by both her mother and grandmother. Her original handmade clothing for the family is usually made with recycled materials. You really can't beat the way she gives new life to these threads...increasing their cool quotient along the way.

In addition to clothing (skirts, dresses, t's, aprons, etc), Amy also offers felt coffee cozies and pins. The felt she uses is made from recycled soda bottles. So, protect your hands from that simmering beverage AND help the environment.

Here is a link to Amy's etsy storefront and also her shop address so you can browse through her plentiful inventory in person! Have a great day.

Greetings readers! Hope all of you had a wonderful weekend and a Happy Easter. Today we would like you to become better acquainted with team member Andrea Baker. She designs unique business card/checkbook cozies, aprons, pins, paper goods and more. Here is an excerpt from her Shop profile:
My name is Andrea. I enjoy sewing and crafting. I've been sewing now for a few years and rather enjoy it. I have 2 beautiful girls (12 yrs and 3 yrs). I also have a very supportive husband who is a professional magician. Most of my time is taken up by several things, my children, my husband, and my obsession with sewing and creating!!
Check out this adorable denim puppy-themed apron in the photograph above. Isn't it darling? Who do you know that would love receiving it for a gift? Or maybe it's time to treat yourself to a little pick-me-up?
We have many links to pass along to you for Andrea and her lovely wares. Besides our group, she also is associated with 3 other teams whose information is provided here too. Take a moment out of your busy day to browse or shop! Enjoy.

Wednesday Item of the day from Triple Nine

Author jannypie Category , , , ,

Newer team member, Brandi, is the creative force behind etsy shop Triple Nine. Here is an excerpt from her self-penned profile...

My passion is creating things in general. I literally feel ill if it has been too long since I have made something. I mostly channel that passion into photography, design, and sewing. I also like to knit, paint, draw, and write. I get inspired by just seeing good design, but also by nature, and the books/movies/music I experience.

My biggest inspiration though is probably my daughter. My ultimate dream in life is to work from home just making things! And maybe doing some freelance graphic design and photography work. Though I will scream if I ever have to do another senior picture!

As far as materials go right now I am really into felt. I love how versatile it is and the endless possibilities of it. However, I love to experiment with all fabric and I plan on incorporating some of my more traditional fabric creations into the shop also.

Monday's Featured Item of the day from BabyGee's

Author jannypie Category , , , , ,

Good morning everyone! Today we shine the spotlight on a core team member with her self-penned introduction...

I am Michelle T., a stay at home mom with 2 great kids. My little business, Baby Gee’s, is home-based and all sewn by me. I offer items for babies, such as blankets, burp cloths, bibs and hooded towels. I can embroider names and dates on items to make them even more special. I also have ventured into making bags and totes, which you can never have too many of I think. Stop by often for new handmade items. If you are looking for something handmade and cannot find it, let me know - maybe I can make it for you.

*The items pictured are the Green Sunburst bib and burpcloth. They are appropriate for a girl or a boy and are generously sized. Note the tie closure which prevents your little one from pulling it off easily. Both are machine washable.

To get to know Michelle and her creations better, please visit any of the links listed below. Thanks!

Tuesday's item of the day from Tsuru Bride

Author jannypie Category , , , , , ,

Okay gang...this might be confusing...yesterday's featured seller did a profile for her blog on today's featured seller a few days ago. We think they are both AWESOME, so are reprinting the sassy interview here today. Be sure to go look at all of the popular creations Meg of Tsurubride has designed and listed for sale in her etsy shop (clutches, business card holders, change purses, and Ipod sleeves like no others you've ever seen before). A link to her blog is also posted. TRES Talented....

Who are you and why should we care?
I am TsuruBride and I make adorable, metallic leather accessories. You should totally care, since if you're ever feeling down my products always make people smile, and who doesn't like smiling? Except for mean, bitter people, but they're horrible at accessorizing anyway. Oh, maybe that's why they're bitter....

How do you plan to take over the world with your creations?
My evil plan consists of an abundance of cuteness. With each creation I melt more and more hearts, until eventually, all that left is warm, mushy feelings, and I swoop in for the kill! Victory will be mine!

If you had to be on one reality TV show, which one would it be and why?
Has to be Project Runway! I'm obsessed with that show as it is, and with my background in fashion design it just makes sense. Plus it's one of the least embarrassing reality shows, and I'd like to hold onto my dignity as long as I can.

Describe one of your prized possessions.
Warning: I'm about to get all sentimental here....
I was trying to pick something like my grandmother's cameo or knick knacks I've collected from my travels, perhaps my sewing machine. But then I thought about what if the house burned down, what would I try and take with me, and the answer was easy - my husband. Now part of this is that my husband has started over in life many times and doesn't have a lot sentimental attachment to objects, and this has definitely rubbed off on me. As well, if I had to start over in life, I feel like as long as my husband was along for the ride, I'd be OK. And I think he'd be OK with the label of "possession", as long as I was his possession as well.

Taking the characteristics of different animals, describe your ideal hybrid pet. What would you name it?
I'd take the short stubby legs of a dachshund, my cat's ears and her purring, an elephants trunk, and some whale's fins. Oooooo.. I would totally mix in some robot action as well. I would name him Fluffy. I like the idea of having a really generic name for an oddball. This, by the way, is going to be in my new line of purses. LOL!

Answer the following statements, for each category, in such a way that it expresses the diversity of your tastes:

a. Music: I like The Decemberists, but I also like Bettye Swann.
b. Movies: I like The Philadelphia Story, but I also like Ironman.
c. Food: I like chocolate, but I also like sushi.

When you close your eyes, do you dream about Night Ranger?
No, but I do dream of Knight Rider.... mmmmm..... oh KITT, you sexy beast of a car.....
